Orly - Bubbly Bombshell (5/5/2011)

Oh my!!!  Bubbly Bombshell was the absolute surprise of my yesterday!  One of my beauty supply stores allowed me to go into the "stock room" and check out the new Orly's Summer Pin-Up Collection.  
I had to have two from the collection and it's no surprise that they were both shiny and sparkly - Bubbly Bombshell, and Here Comes Trouble.


Color Description:  Bubbly Bombshell is described by Orly as a "purple glitter" but it's so much more than that!  It's more like a hot pink/magenta glitter with flashes of purple.  So, so pretty this really could have been in the OPI Burlesque glitter collection...


Similar To:  After swatching a few lacquers that I thought looked similar in the bottle I was pleasantly surprised that I don't have a dupe of this in my collection.  I swatched Milani Purple Gleam and Zoya Roxy and boy oh boy was my eye off.  Nothing similar about these, at all, except glitter!


This Look:  One coat of Starting Over After Artificials for my base, three coats of Bubbly Bombshell, one coat of Sally Hansen's NailShine Miracle and one coat of Shine and Hold on top.  This is a fairly gritty glitter so you will need a few thick layers of topcoat for best results.


Price Point/Availability:  This collection is retailing for $7.50 and should be in stores right now wherever Orly is found.

Well, this should really brighten my work day today!  Accounting can be a tad bit boring, thus the nail hobby and with polishes like this, who can really be bored.

Orly Pure Porcelain (Spring/Summer 2011 - Precious Collection)

Color Description:  The fairest pink of them all, Pure Porcelain, is a very milky barely pink creme with a hint of lavender for added interest and appeal.  This is the exact same color of calamine lotion - no joke!  I actually opened up my bottle to verify my suspicions and wah-lah, you have Pure Porcelain.


Similar To:  Lately I've been striking out on comparisons but today I think I found a very similar color from Sally Hansen Hard As Nails - Lilac (the bottle pics tell the whole story).  I saw this color on a friend a while back and was in love!  However, whereas Pure Porcelain is a creme, Lilac has a slight iridescence to it and is less opaque.  Just gorgeous!


Price Point/Availability:  
Pure Porcelain from Orly's Precious Collection is now available at retailers in-store and online for $7.50.  Sally Hansen's Lilac retails for $2.50 and I purchased mine from CVS on clearance (75% off) last week.

This Look:  2 coats of Pure Porcelain (w/ no base) and one coat of Sherani Tufcoat Plus.

Orly - Royal Velvet (Spring 2011 Collection)

Royal Velvet (RV) has just gone to the top of my favorite nail polish list and is so much more stunning in person than in these pics.  And more beautiful on the nail than in the bottle.  Onwards with the review!


Color Description:  I am personally describing Royal Velvet as the quintessential blurple - hands down!  How many facets of color can one lacquer have?  Well, with flashes of blue, purple and deep magenta, RV is a duo-chrome that must be purchased, owned and worn to truly appreciate.  I've included four pics and took many more to capture its essence and this is the best I could do ladies. :)


Similar To:  I've been told that Royal Velvet is very reminiscent of SpaRitual's Health Wealth and Happiness, as well as, China Glaze's Tempest.  If you own either of these, please let me know if they're dupes to RV.


This Look:  I'm wearing one coat of Barielle's Camouflage underneath becuase it was a bit sheer; two coats of RV and one coat of Shine and Hold.


Price Point/Availability:  Royal Velvet is from Orly's Precious Collection for Spring and will be available starting March 2011 for $7.50 each.  Looks like a few smaller beauty supply chains are putting them out a little early - yay for me!

Jessie's Fire Fly over Orly Winter Wonderland (01/06/2011)

Color Description: Winter Wonderland is an icy glass-flecked delight with white iridescence, while Fire Fly has green and yellow iridescence and has more of a foil finish.


Similar To: Fire Fly has been compared to China Glaze's new Spring 2011 offering, White Cap, as well as, the Too Faced for Ulta, Sugar Cookie.  I believe that while Sugar Cookie is similar, Fire Fly has a bit more green going on than either of these comparisons.


This Look:  Two Coats of Starting Over After Artificials (base coat), two Coats of Orly Winter Wonderland, one coat of Jessie's Girl Fire Fly and one coat Shine & Hold (topcoat from local beauty supply).


Price Point: Orly Winter Wonderland was sold at Sally Beauty Supply for about $6 per bottle, however, you may be able to find this clearanced out at your local store.  As far as Fire Fly is concerned, these have just hit the market in Southern California at local Rite Aids and are sold for $3.

NAIL REWIND: Orly - Royal Navy

Orly Royal Navy is such a pretty color that I just had to revisit it!  I wore this color to one of the last Dodger games of the season and they won...  It was fun and a perfect match for the occasion - I felt very, very well-polished that evening.

This is two coats with one coat of SH Mega Shine.  I just love the turquoise shimmer in this.  I've yet to see a comparison posted about this color, however, the shimmer has been compared to Pure Ice's Heartbreaker which can be layered over to intensify its brilliance.

This is definitely a jelly and if you take a close look at the pic you will see "vnl", the dreaded visible nail line (lol), however, that's the beauty of a jelly - the utter sheerness of it all!  And in a vibrant blue, this color is to die for. For me, this nail color pretty much stands alone.

Orly Space Cadet - Blingtastic!

Well, here it is, my rendition of Orly Space Cadet a crazy-blingy lacquer, thus, BLINGTASTIC!  This nail polish will satisfy the purple lovers, pink lovers, green lovers, as well as, the gold lovers.  

I just asked my DH what color comes to his mind when he sees this polish then I proceeded to move my hand around so that he could appreciated the duocrominess, of it all. Can you guess which color he saw?  Are you ready for this?  Brown.  

He's such a boy; to his credit, however, if you mix any the above mentions colors together, I'm almost certain you will get some type of brownish hue.  

Do I see a challenge brewing for all you franken-ladies?  Alrighty then, pick this up at your local beauty supply or drug store and you are certain to be well-polished!

COMPS: Green and Gorgeous - MAC Jade Dragon Q&D's

This is definitely a set of gorgeous green polishes worthy of comparison!  This quick and dirty post was totally inspired by MAC Jade Dragon, which the Nordies SA so kindly pointed out, that this was the "last one" they had in the store.  

What'd she want to say that for, I took a closer look and said, "I'll take it!".  I did, however, mention to her that I have many greens and if it's too close to something I already have I would bring it back.  Well, so much for that - IT'S A KEEPER!

The picture above consists of (top to bottom): Ulta Tainted Love (index), China Glaze Watermelon Rind (middle), Orly Meet Me Under the Mistletoe (ring), and MAC Jade Dragon (pinky). At a glance, you will see, that the bottle pics (below) are in the same family.

These colors, though they're similar, are not the same.  And I'm thrilled to have them all in my collection.  MAC's JD has what I'd call a "secret shimmer" which makes it super shiny and is darker on the nail, while Orly's MMUtM is all-out glass-flecked gorgeousness.  ChG WR is the most teal of the bunch and is glass-flecked, as well, with Ulta's TL being a beautiful deep green with golden shimmer.  And if I'm not mistaken, all of these colors are still available for purchase in the U.S.

One more gorgeous deep green of note would be Nina Ultra Pro's Emerald City.  This was the very first green shimmer I fell in ♥ with (see pic to the right).  This would be a suitable base for all comps above, that is, if you wanted to stretch your nicer bottle of polish.  At any rate, I hope you enjoyed these comps and please let me know your thoughts below.

Orly - Out Of This World (09/30/2010) - The Big Sister of The Orly CosmicFX Girls

I introduce to you my NOTD, Orly's Out Of This World, and a rant, of sorts.  

In my opinion, this is Space Cadet's and Galaxy Girl's big sister but she gets little or no ♥!!!  We've definitely seen the likes of her before so we could say she's been around a lot longer...Now, I'm not saying that Space Cadet (click here) is not prettier or more interesting, because it is!  

What I am saying is that OOTW deserves a NOTD or two (just so happens that alizarine claws and I both have this on today), you know what they say about great minds! 

This has been popping up in local CVS's nationwide and though it is definitely in the higher price range for drugstore nail polish, it's definitely unusual enough to spend your CVS Extra Bucks on

COMPS: Bruised Beauties - Orly Galaxy Girl Q&D's

Over the past week I've collected a few "Bruised Beauties", all of which, were inspired by Orly Galaxy Girl,  however, the first of the bunch was purchased months ago - Misa Embroidered Emerald. Recently, alizarine claws requested a comp so here goes it.  Below, I have "quick & dirty" comparison pics for your perusal:

My favorite has got to be the Orly Galaxy Girl, and coming in quick second is the Misa Embroidered Emerald, third would be Borghese Stellare Notte with Zoya Ki coming in fourth place - all are beautiful.  Though these are in the same color family they are different and if you're a lover of "bruised beauties" then you should own all of these.  

I do not own the namesake of this post, you guessed it, Urban Decay Bruised, which is identical to Misa Embroidered Emerald per this comparison by j e l l y n a t.  So if you own Bruised you do not need Embroidered Emerald .  Here is another comp of Bruised and Galaxy girl by AllYouDesire (beautiful pics, yes?).  

As you can see GG has the beautiful glass flecks, whereas, Bruise/Embroidered Emerald has a beautiful micro-shimmer - they are different. Oh, and as we know, if you own Orly Galaxy Girl you definitely don't need to plop down $13 buck-a-roos for MAC Formidable! as temptalia.com describes in this recent article.
