Kleancolor - Funky Yellow

Whoooo! Can you say bright? Well, today is a rather cold and dreary Tuesday here in Southern California, so I decided to brighten things up a bit with this bold lacquer from Kleancolor - Funky Yellow.

I should also mention that I'm housebound (without wheels) today so this is the perfect color to wear inside - p.s. I don't think I'll be sporting this look for the public, but you can be sure that bold and daring celebrities rock this color all the time; everyone from Seal to Rihanna have been spotted with this look.

Color Description:  Neon (aka highlighter) yellow creme.

Similar To:  There are many colors like this on the market but this one is by far the least expensive.  Perfect for a lacquer that more than likely won't be worn much.

This Look:  One coat of Instant Artificials, three coats of Funky Yellow and one coat of Shine and Hold.  Note: Two coats were totally opaque but had balding in certain spots, thus the third coat.

Price Point/Availability:  If you can find these in a local beauty supply, that's your best bet; I've seen them for as low as $1.00. They are also available at Kleancolor's website for $3.49 (+ an $8 shipping charge - yikes!).

Would you wear this color or is it too avant garde?  Have a great evening and take care of yourselves. :)

Kleancolor 230 - Chunky Holo Fuchsia over Revlon Royal (2/18/2012)

So, I don't have Clarins 230 but I have Kleancolor 230 (Chunky Holo Fuchsia) and here it is over Revon Royal.  It's interesting, isn't it?  I wasn't well this weekend so I didn't leave the house with this look and was kinda sad that I didn't get to see it in the sun but it was a nice look to lounge around in - lol.

Color Description: So pretty I have to say it twice "230 is gorgeous iridescent glitter that sparkles gold, orange and green all suspended in a fuchsia jelly transforming any base color from wow to ooh wee!"

Similar To: This is really a unique lacquer that said to be mimicking the rare find known to be Clarins 230.  The glitter is much larger in the Kleancolor, however.

This Look: One coat of Miss Marion Garlic Superbase, two coats of Revlon Royal and two coats of 230 (Chunky Holo Fuchsia).

Price Point/Availability: Kleancolors are available online $3.49 (+ tax) with a whopping $8.00 for shipping.  So if you can find these in a local beauty supply, that's your best bet; I've seen them for as low as $1.00.

Thanks for checking me out... :)

Kleancolor - Holo Chrome over Wet n Wild On A Trip (02/12/2012)

Halogen Lighting w/ Cloudy Camera Setting
(for truer color)
I decided to spice up my WnW with a little Holo Chrome from Kleancolor.  These are a great accompaniments to one other as they are both blue based medium-toned purples.

Color Description: Holo Chrome is a fine particle scattered holo in a blue-based purple clear jelly. It is a very striking lacquer and will definitely glam up any mani.

Similar To: Holo Chrome is definitely a stand-alone lacquer but if you're looking to layer it, try this combo.  WnW On A Trip is, again, is the same color/hue of purple.

This Look: One coat of Holo Chrome over my last mani and topped with Shine & Hold.

Day (OTT) Lighting w/ Cloudy Camera Setting
Price Point/Availability: I, generally, find these in a local beauty supply and have seen them for as low as $1.00. They are also available at Kleancolors website for $3.49 (+ tax and $8 an shipping charge).

This should be a good week, instead of starting the weekend with party nails I'm ending the weekend with them.

Day (OTT) Lighting w/ Normal Camera Setting
(shows blue but still nice, eh?)

Have a great week and see you in a day or so...  I have a hunch that I'm going to get tired of these nails really quick and I already know what's next.  See you soon!

Kleancolor - Holo Yellow/Catherine Arley #801 Comp

Just out of curiosity I swatched Kleancolor's Holo Yellow on my pinky so that I could compare it with Catherine Arley's #801.  As you can see the coloring is very close in color but the finish is totally different.

The finish of the Catherine Arley is jelly and linear (very sophisticated), while the Kleancolor Holo Yellow is a bit more frosty and definitely a scattered holo.

Again, if you can't get your hands on Catherine Arley's version, Kleancolor will definitely do!

Kleancolor 231 - Chunky Holo Scarlet over OPI - A Man In Every Port-ugal (07/14/2011)

Window Lighting
Kleancolor is really "knocking it out the park" with their Chunky Holo series of nail lacquers!  Today we have Scarlet and she's a true beaut...

Color Description:  The perfect layering glitter, Scarlet, has a multi-chromatic golden-orange glitter suspended in bright red sheer jelly syrup-like lacquer and could easily be worn alone.  I already had on OPI's AMIEP and wanted to freshen it up so I picked up Scarlet and went to town.  And yes, after you paint your nails with Scarlet, you will want to go on a night on the town, literally!

Halogen Lighting
Similar To:  Well, ladies, if you couldn't get your hands on Essie Ruby Slippers (which is discontinued) then you need to run out and pick up Scarlet.  These are similar in effect except for the fact that the Essie was a bit bumpy while Kleancolor's formula is smooth.  Wet n' Wild also came out with a red glitter last Winter called Extravaganza which was a bit more opaque but was gorgeous, just the same.  I ♥ red glitters!!!

OTT Light
This Look:
One coat of Scarlet over my existing mani, topped with one coat of Sally Hansen's Mega Shine.

Price Point/Availability:  If you can find these in a local beauty supply, that's your best bet; I've seen them for as low as $1.00. They are also available at Kleancolors website for $3.49 (+ tax and $8 an shipping charge).  Gas is so expensive you might just want to purchase online than hunting for them at you local beauty supplies.  Your choice but worth it either way! :)

Incandescent Lighting
(over gold)
No matter what the brand, with the right top and base coat your nails will be fabulous.  Check out my Nail Treatments and Essentials tab so that you can find out my tips and tricks to keep my nails chip free and lovely.  Take care!

Pink Wednesday: Misa - Sandals, Flip Flops and Hip Hop w/ Kleancolor Chunky Holo Candy

Hi All!  Today (Wednesday) I'm wearing a funky fluorescent pink for Pink Wednesays - starring Misa's Sandals, Flip Flops and Hip Hop co-starring Kleancolor's Chunky Holo Candy and I must say they work well together.

Color Description:  Sandals, Flip Flops and Hip Hop is from the appropriately named Look on the Bright Side collection and is a bright neon pink creme.  This is very pretty but not that extravagant so I thought I'd add some bling with the new Kleancolor Chunky Holo Candy which is a glowy pink/orange glitter suspended in a pink/coral jelly base.

Similar To:  Again, this color is not super-unique, other than the name and that it's a Misa - yay!  ♥ Misas... :)

This Look:  One coat of Starting Over After Artificials, two coats of Misa Sandals, Flip Flops and Hip Hop (very thick and goopy, which makes it slow-drying), one coat of Kleancolor Chunky Holo Candy and one coat of Z Top Coat.

Price Point/Availability:  You can still find this Misa's website retailing for $7.50.

I don't know about you ladies but I was intrigued with the name of this Misa and for that reason alone I swapped for it sight-unseen.  Have a great rest of the week and hope to actually post on Pink Wednesday next week...

Kleancolor 230 - Chunky Holo Fuchsia over Essie - Your Hut or Mine (6/3/2011)

I've been extremely excited about the new Kleancolors of late and the Chunky Holos were at the top of my lemmings list!  So far, I've only found three of them in person, Fuchsia, Purple and Candy.  Here's a look at Fuchsia, though, I had the most difficult time capturing it on "film" - you get so much more in person than what the pics are showing.

Color Description:  230 is gorgeous iridescent glitter that sparkles gold, orange and green all suspended in a fuchsia jelly transforming any base color from wow to ooh wee! I layered this over my previous mani, Essie YHoM.

Similar To:  The effect of Kleancolor 230 puts me in the mind of the highly sought after Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure or Nubar 2010 and is just as exciting as the Nfu-Oh flakies with its fuchsia base.  This is what makes 230 a stand out - the jelly base is phenomenal and "word on the street" has it that Kleancolor is paying homage to the elusive Clarins 230 (see Scrangie pic).  Will do a post on this comparison at a later date.

This Look:  Two coats of 230 over YHoM, with one coat of Shine & Hold.

Price Point/Availability:  These have been on the market for a month, or so, however, and are available online $3.49 (+ tax) with a whopping $8.00 for shipping.  So if you can find these in a local beauty supply, that's your best bet; I've seen them for even lower than that.

Have an awesome weekend ladies!  I think I will keep this man on for a few days.  See you soon...

Fun-Friday Mani: Kleancolor Crack - Red Crackle over Sally Hansen - Tipsey Toesey Rose (5/13/2011)

A Fun-Friday Mani is usually on for no more than 24 hours and this one is no exception!  It was inspired by Colour Coated (her mani was awesome, by the way).   I polled some friends and family and they loved it, which made me feel a bit better, after I had chalked this up to a fail.  Well, on to the review:

Color Description:  Underneath this new, bright candy apple red, Kleancolor Crack in Red Crackle, I have on a bright pink from Sally Hansen called Tipsey Toesey Rose, which was part of a weird "Just Feet" collection that ended up at the Dollar Tree (wonder why? - lol).

Similar To:  There are a few other red crackles on the market but I don't think any are this bright and have this crackle pattern.

This Look:  Veeerrry difficult (see disclaimer below)!  One coat of Miss Marion's Superbase, two coats of Tipsey Toesey Rose, one coat of Red Crackle and one coat of Shine and Hold topcoat.

Disclaimer (Application):  KC's Crack is very fickle and must be painted over freshly painted nails.  It can't be too fresh, though, (i.e. one coat coat of wet polish) or it will crack and take the polish right along with it leaving your bare nail showing.  So I suggest two coats of color, letting the 1st coat dry completely, add the second, let it semi dry (still sticky to the touch) and then add the crackle.  If applied over yesterday's mani, however, it will just dry and blow away in the wind.  You will literally be able to wipe it off with your finger; not nice and very messy.

Price Point/AvailabilityRed Crackle retails on the Kleancolor website for $3.99 (+ tax) with a whopping $8.00 for shipping.  So if you can find these in a local beauty supply that's your best bet; they can get as low as $1.99.  The Sally Hansen Just Feet lacquer in Tipsey Toesey Rose is discontinued and can be found randomly at your local Dollar Tree.

Well, off to go have dinner with the hubsters.  I'm in the mood for an Island's margarita (yum!).  I like Fun-Fridays, how about you?

Kleancolor Crack - Green Crackle (5/4/2011)

Left Hand
The market has been flooded with all sorts for crackle collections for every budget and I wanted to try a few colors from the Kleancolor Crack line, so I picked up Green Crackle, Red Crackle, Brown Crackle and Purple Crackle.

Color Description:  Green crackle is deep green like the color of school bus seats in the 80's - lol!  Oh and the crackle pattern reminds me of a tortoise shell.

Similar To:  Is there another green crackle on the market yet?  If you know of one please fill me in, but for now I know of nothing similar.

Right Hand
This Look:  Two coats of Miss Marion's Super Base (white), one coat of Green Crackle, and one coat of Z Super Fast Dry topcoat.  Please note that a good base is imperative.  I painted my bare nail and 1st it didn't crackle and second, as I was blowing it dry, it literally blew off my nails like powder.  So, strange!

As you can see from my pics, the left hand (thin layer) crackled a finer than my right hand (thick layer).  I prefer the look of the right hand, myself.

Price Point/Availability:  I believe these were released within the last week, or so, however, they are not available online yet but will retail for $3.99 (+ tax) with a whopping $8.00 for shipping.  So if you can find these in a local beauty supply that's your best bet; they can get as low as $1.99.

Well, today's my day off so I will wear this for a few hours tops!  Have you seen these around yet?  There are a few other Kleancolors that I'd like to get my hands on and for this price you can't go wrong.  As always, stay well-polished and talk to you a bit later.

Kleancolor Orange Holo (10/06/2010)

This NOTD is inspired by the base color, a Jennifer nail lacquer, that my friend picked up for me on her tour of the South of France.  She wanted to get this one because she's originally from New York and she had to go all the way to Paris to find something with the description Beauty from New York; the name of this color is Orange. We had a good laugh and since I didn't already own an orange frost I really wanted to try to figure out what to do with it.

Let me say, however, that orange is my least favorite color to wear, but I also own an orange jelly that I'd never worn so I came up with this combo. There's something very sparkly and delicious about this Kleancolor's Orange Holo; I layered this on top.

Oh, and by the way, if you don't know what to do with your frosts - layer them underneath a holo glitter and none will be the wiser!

Wahlah!  I introduce to you Holo Orange over Orange frost:

Looks much more holo in person. (see next shot)
The frost base actually adds a shimmering depth to the finished look which is really pretty.  So don't throw out your frosts - LAYER THEM!

Dark shot for holo effect; difficult to photograph.
Holo Orange is a jelly and really can stand alone at about three (or four) coats.

Here's a macro shot which shows the sparkleliciousness of it all!

Hope you enjoyed this post and have an awesomely, well-polished afternoon!

HAULAGE REPORT - OPI DS Royal

This was a very fruitful nail polish weekend!  Purchased my first Nubars and found two OPI DS's to add to my collection.  Which brings me to my NOTD:

OPI DS Royal with Kleancolor Chrome on ring finger.  Chrome (on ring finger) was a beautiful gift from one of my MUA NBer (Makeupalley Nailboarder) buddies, faerieberry, she noticed it wasn't in my collection and wahlah there it was.

DS Royal puts me in the mind of the many glass-flecked colors in the market today, of which, Sally Hansen has contributed the most.

Not sure if this will be the first and last time I wear this color, as it is definitely not one of my favorites DS's and with space being limited this might have to be one that I let go... :(

My haul consisted of five Nubar's: Prize, Gem, Jewel, Iris Dust and 2010; I also picked up Essie Sew Psyched. And later the same day came across OPI DS Glow along with Precision After Dinner Mints.  Today I found the nail polish shown in the picture (OPI DS Royal).  I really thought I was going to love this one, but, not so much...
